Facts About Weight Loss Surgery

Weight loss surgery is a surgical procedure that enables a person to lose weight. It is specifically for those people, who tried everything to lose weight or tried hard to maintain their weight loss but failed in all their attempts

Although newest technology makes the weight loss surgeries more efficient and safer, weight loss surgery can be a difficult decision for some people. It is a solid commitment from the patient to follow a diet and exercise plan.

Before making any decision, you have to know these facts:

  • Weight loss surgery patients are advised not to expect the weight loss surgery to be their answer to all their problems. So it is essential that you have a clear idea that the results of weight loss surgery will be able to meet those expectations.

  • The amount of weight you will lose depends on the weight loss surgery type. Also, your exercise routine and the foods you eat will also affect your weight loss outcome.

  • Men who are overweight by 100 pounds or more and have a Body Mass Index of about 40+ and women who are 80 pounds overweight or more and have a body mass index of 40+ are considered severely obese and may be candidates for weight loss surgery. Those who have a BMI between 35 and 40 and suffer from obesity related heart disease, or diabetes may be considered for the weight loss surgery.

  • In general, weight loss surgery is safe. There are some types that are safer than others. Surgeries that are performed laparoscopically are safer and easier to recover from than open procedures. But as with any surgical procedure there are risks involved and these should be carefully considered before having the procedure. There may be some medical conditions that will prevent a good outcome for some patients.

  • Healing time depends on the type of surgery that is performed. Generally it takes four to six weeks. You can resume your normal activities after that time.

  • You will be limited to liquids and foods for the first five weeks after surgery. You should avoid sweet foods and foods that are fibrous, greasy, doughy or sticky.

  • Weight Loss Surgery can be a life saving procedure for some people. The main advantage of weight loss surgery is weight reduction with many of its patients being pleased with the amount of weight they have lost.

How To Keep Healthy Diet For Kids

Making a Healthy Home can be easier than you think. A nutritionally healthy home is one of the most important to ensure the health of your child. Your first aim should be how to help your child develop a positive relationship with healthy food.

Here are the some guidelines:

1. Never diagnose your child as too heavy, or too thin, by yourself. Always talk with your child's doctor before putting your child on a diet. If weight change is recommended seek the help of a Dietitian.

2. Children will eat what's readily available. So keep healthy food at hand.

3. Tie foods to the things your child cares about, such as sports and hobbies.

4. Avoid restrict food. Restricting food will increase the risk of overeating because it may develop eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia which will cause weight gain.

5. If your child chooses unhealthy foods infrequently, ignore it but redirect the choice in the next time.

6. Give your children a proud smile and tell them how smart they are when they choose healthy foods.

7. Never use food as a reward. This could create weight problems in later life.

8. Share dinner with your family. Children who eat dinners at the table with their parents have better nutrition and are less likely to get in serious trouble as teenagers.

Healthy Weight Management

A lot of people know that being both over weight and under weight are not good for them, but health is about far more than just body weight. So they are placing importance on keeping physically healthy. This can be seen by the amount of people who are joining gyms and sports clubs, going on diets.

Because we are surrounded by images and conceptions of beauty that distort our idea of what a healthy body should look like, much of the worries that people feel regarding their weight are more to do with media images and glamorous advertisements than on what is considered healthy.

You do not need scientific advice if you are genuinely concerned about health. More likely what you need is common sense simple changes like snacking on fruits sometimes, walking to work, and visiting your doctor when recommended.

Then weight loss should not be the ultimate goal of all fitness efforts. You should try to cut down on cigarette and alcohol consumption, eat healthy food, get a reasonable amount of exercise, and generally take care of yourself.

Visiting your Doctor is recommended at varying intervals depending on your age and health circumstances. If the cost of doctor visits is a serious issue that causes you to skip visits, then you should consider a health insurance plan that will cover such checkups.

Feelings Associated With Weight Loss

Usually weight loss is associated with both positive and negative feelings. You're feeling better, look better, fit in nicer clothes, etc. Losing weight can entice feelings of fear that doesn't seem to have a place in such a constructive process.  However, are you aware that negative feelings about your life changing process are also normal?

Weight gain happens for some reasons but not all about what is behind the overeating. It is usually attributed to just poor eating and exercise habits. Weight gain is almost always associated with something much deeper.  It allows you to disappear in society, which in turn can make you feel safer.

As you begin to understand why you gained the weight, you also need to address your feelings as you succeed at your weight loss efforts. This is a journey that will require time and patience. You may stall and have to restart. You may lose motivation and need assistance to get back on track.

Give yourself 15 minutes a day to sit and let go of the mental stress. During these 15 minutes consciously let go of any thoughts that are occupying your mind. Empty your mind of all thought. Let your system rest for 15 minutes and you will find that you are more in control of more of your day.

Weight Loss Plan With Subconscious Pictures

Everyone who has ever tried to lose weight knows that the really big issue is motivation. To be successful at losing weight you must find your own motivation. More importantly, you must keep motivated, even when times get tough.

You have to know how to replace your negative subconscious images into positive images through the practice of controlled visualization. learn how to change your existing subconscious pictures that keep you anchored to your poor eating behaviour.

A lot of people are not aware that there is always a corresponding picture for their thoughts.  If you did not use pictures, you would not be able to answer the simplest question. If I were to ask you: "What did you have for supper last night ?" You immediately repeat my question to yourself which in turn triggers a picture in your subconscious mind of what you had for supper. It is only after you have triggered this picture that you are capable of answering my question.

Your subconscious images are simply corresponding pictures of your self talk. So it is surprisingly easy to develop your own weight-goal imagery. Through regular practice you will become more and more comfortable in delving into your imagination. Just think of it as creative constructive daydreaming.

All people with a weight problem have accepted a picture of themselves as being overweight. Unless you change this picture, your subconscious mind will use this existing body picture as a guideline for how you should look. The most important picture you will ever change in your subconscious mind is the picture you now have of your body or how you perceive your self-image.

Your mental health will determine your body health. The control of the subconscious is the key to lasting permanent change of any behaviour.

Motivation For Weight Loss

If you are attempting to weight loss, it is simply not enough to begin an exercise program. You must also be able to stick with it. And you may be wondering whether your exercise program is really worth the effort.

Perseverance is the main cause to success in exercise program. It is good for your life if you commit it for a long time and best if you make it a daily duty. At a time it can be difficult, but in the end it is well worth the effort you exert.

Motivation should begin with having a tangible goal. This might be doubling the amount of calories you burn within a few of months. For example, if you are basically inactive when you start your program, you should aim to burn off 300 – 500 calories a week. If you are fairly active when you start exercising your goal should be 800 - 1,000 calories.

You might have a chart for your progress. You will record exactly what kind of exercises you do each week. Be sure to include the number of repetitions you're performing with each exercise. Seeing how well you're doing can be truly inspiring and can keep you motivated.

The fact that you are part of a social network will help to keep you motivated. So joining a group that engages in some kind of exercise is an effective motivational strategy.

There is no specific way to exercise. But you need to make sure that whatever you do is effective and that you’re sufficiently motivated to do it. By following just a few simple tips, you can ensure that your exercise routine will continue over the long term.

A Long Term Weight Loss Diet

Wherever you go on the market you will see so many diets. If you are a serial dieter then you literally have no end to the options you can pick and choose from.

What you need to know is that it is not the diet that controls the weight loss; it is the person behind the diet. If you have not yet come to understand right diet for you and you are bouncing from one diet plan to diet pill, to the next gym membership then you need to realize that  it is you failing the diet not the diet is failing you.

There are some of the things you can do to stay on track for a healthy lifestyle that involve a long term weight loss plan such as:

1. Count your calories. You can use a calorie chart to see how many calories you are consuming daily.

2. Water is essential for our life. Everyone needs water, at least 2 litres daily.

3. Don’t skip any meals. Skipping meals will just make your hungrier in the long-run and you will eat MORE food.

4. Stop fatty fast foods.  Fast food has high calorie food that isn't nutritious in the long run.
5. Stop alcohol because it may dehydrate you.

Weight Loss Motivation Guidelines

All dietitians and obesity experts agree that personal motivation is the foundation of all weight loss success. No matter how healthy the diet-plan is, or what combination of, it won't help anyone lose weight unless they follow it for long enough. Their success depends entirely on how motivated they are to change their eating and exercise habits.

The market offers different types of diets and weight loss plans, but advice on motivation when dieting is in extremely short supply. This lack of motivational help may stem from the fact that many diets are created by people who lack hands-on experience of helping people to manage their weight.

We can say that starting a weight loss diet is like starting a journey. And like any journey it requires preparation. This journey doesn't involve packing equipment, it involves packing new thoughts. To take control of the process and greatly increase our chances of success, we need to look ahead and plan how to overcome problems that occur along the way. This isn't psycho-babble - this is plain common sense.

Boredom is the most common problem we face when dieting is. This typically occurs when our initial enthusiasm for losing weight wears off, and we become tired of watching what we eat.  So to overcome it, we need to re-establish exactly where we are going. Remember, dieting is not an aimless process; it's a journey.

May be you say "I'm really bored with dieting. I can't eat this, I can't eat that.
This kind of thinking focuses exclusively on the negative aspects of dieting and signals complete aimlessness. It is totally demotivating. No weight loss goal will be achieved if you think like this.

You have to say “no matter what happens, I'm going to be honest with myself.  So what do I want? I want to lose weight and get myself into shape”. These are some better alternatives that will regain direction is to remind yourself why you are dieting.

    Hormones Imbalance And Weight Loss

Our body is affected by hormones in many ways. One specific way is an increase in weight. Women gain weight around their middle between the armpits and the top of the thighs. But men gain weight around their waists and often are on their way to developing breasts.

Estrogens hormone that produced in our fat cells increases fat cells. Breaking the Estrogens cycle and then going on an excellent weight management program is exactly what needs to take place.

Evaluate your hormones. Find out the ratio of estrogens to progesterone presently in your body. If out of balance, we call that estrogens dominance, then you will likely have or currently be gaining weight around your middle.

Begin an estrogens-lowering program. That will include of course increasing your progesterone levels with a bio-identical progesterone cream. But hormone balancing was never all about progesterone. Modulating and balancing is equally important to your weight loss program.

    An estrogens-lowering program will include:

    • Eat fruits, vegetables and whole grains much as you can to increase fiber intake.

    • Eat cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower as much as you can to increase the Indoles.

    • Increase the essential fatty acids in your diet. They are essential because the body does not make them. They help balance prostaglandin production in the body and thus help regulate estrogens.

    • Take extra vitamin C and concentrated fruit and vegetable supplement to increase your overall nutrition.

Incorporate a way to approach meals purposing to eat Carbohydrates, Proteins and Fats in a balanced way at each meal. This will normalize our weight. Also our energy levels will increase and our hormones will be in balance.

Develop a great exercise program with the help of someone who knows what they are doing. Set up a program especially for you - one that you can do and are willing to make a commitment to keep.

Remember that people whose hormones are out of balance feel unwell. Others who have balanced hormones feel well. Achieving hormone health will increase your overall health and wellness and assist you in losing weight. You will look younger and feel younger!

    5 “DON’TS “ For Weight Loss

Anywhere you go you will hear about some type of weight loss stories. The dangers of not losing weight appear regularly on the daily news. The market is full of books and products about how to lose weight.

Weight loss isn’t impossible but there are a few tips you have to get:

    ·  Don’t say how much you will lose tomorrow or next week. Just start your plan and you  will begin seeing the result.

    ·  Don’t hurry. Slow and steady weight loss is better and safer. In order to lose weight you've got to consume fewer calories than you burn. When you combine dieting with exercise, you'll be reducing your caloric intake and increasing your caloric burn rate at the same time.

    ·  Don't spend your money on the latest weight loss gimmicks. Eating a nutritionally-balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, good fats and lean proteins will encourage weight loss faster than any miracle cure you can buy.

    ·  Don't become a victim of the scale. But when the numbers stay the same or go up, it is easy to give up and give in. Remember that even if your weight isn't changing as you would like, you'll be taking better care of your heart.

    Acai Berry Diets

Acai Berry is a type of berry that is harvested in the Brazilian rain forests from the Amazon Palm Tree. The berries are filled with lots of minerals, vitamins and other important nutrients. Everywhere you turn the Acai Berry is being praised for its array of health benefits. Experts believe that it is one of the most nourishing natural foods on earth. It keeps us young, healthy, and feeling our best.

Although they have a number of other benefits such as reducing the aging process and helping cell recovery, there are many claims about acai berry related to weight loss. The properties of acai berry can be largely explained by the increased metabolic rate it causes. This happens because of the very large amount of antioxidants it contains. This leads to faster fat breakdown, increases energy levels and fights fatigue. Combined, these effects make the process of losing weight faster and easier without any side effects usually associated with synthetic chemicals. Many research papers suggest that eating a diet high in antioxidants is the key to successful weight loss.

But you have to remember that there is no "magic pill" that is going to make your weight problems just vanish. The acai berry is just like any other fruit . They are great to eat and are good for you, but berries alone will not shrink your body but may help with weight problems along with a balanced diet. You are led to believe that because they are exotic that they contain magical properties.

Are there any risks associated with acai berries?

There are no established medical risks associated with the product because acai berries are not a product, they are a fruit. However, there are processed versions of the Acai berry that are mixed into weight loss supplements. These supplements can come in the form of pills, juices, or powders. Some of these supplements are removed from their natural state and that makes them somewhat less than desirable as far as the risks associated with the product goes.
Consumers also need to be aware of the many deceptive acai berry promotions that are circulating the internet right now. They claim to offer you a free trial, however, in the fine print they usually state that you will be charged every month or two for more bottles on an auto-ship type program. Most people don't realize they are going to be billed after their initial free trial as they use very deceptive marketing tactics.

    Abdominal Muscles Exercise Machines

By doing just a few minutes of abdominal exercises each day, you are never going to make much of a difference to your amount of body fat or to the size of your stomach. That is why you always get a diet program with any new abdominal machine you just purchased which they insist that you use.

These machines are made to strengthen and tone your abdominal muscles. They work though and can give you those rock-hard abs, but you won't be able to see them if they are covered by layers of ugly fat.

After using them for a few weeks without seeing any results, they will usually just end up gathering dust in the garage somewhere until the next greatest ab machine gets released and you think to yourself that.

The attractive models on the commercials have such sexy waistlines. That means if you are already slim and have slightly visible abdominal muscles, then these exercise devices are great to make them look more defined. They would have followed a healthy, balanced diet along with many hours in the gym. They did not get their sexy figures by using the advertised machine.

They also probably never even laid their eyes on the machine they were promoting until the day of the photo or infomercial shoot and have timed their training and diets in order to be in absolute peak physical condition for that one day.
You need to remember that by doing only ab exercises; you will not accomplish much when it comes to reducing your weight. A few minutes of ab exercises daily will not burn away the fat from your belly.

If want to have a well-defined and sexy stomach, you will need to add other exercises to your regime such as weight training and maybe some cardio exercise too such as bike riding, rowing and aerobics.

You are also must take notice of what you eat as your diet is probably the most important part of any successful weight loss program.

    Hoodia Gordonii Pills

Hoodia, or hoodia gordonii, is a extremely popular ingredients right now in hundreds of different weight loss supplements. But are they actually safe to consume? And do they really work?

Hoodia is a small African cactus traditionally used by the Khoi-san people of the Kalahari Desert to suppress appetite during hunting campaigns that could last many days
as antelope such as the kudu were tracked to exhaustion. It mostly grows in the deserts of Africa including Botswana, Angola and Namibia. Its popularity has grown rapidly from the idea that it can drastically suppress the appetite.

There have as yet been no published clinical trials done on humans to show that Hoodia is effective for weight loss and safe to consume. Although most websites claim that it has no side-effects, there were indications made by researchers that it may have undesired effects upon the liver due to other ingredients within the Hoodia plant that are hard to remove.

Patients who are taking medication or sufferers from diabetes are advised not to take Hoodia supplements as they may interfere with medications in the liver and with the mechanism by which the brain regulates the blood sugar of the body.

    Ingredients questioned
Some people have questioned whether products boasting of hoodia actually contain the supplement. Critics have argued that there isn't enough cultivated hoodia to account for all the products claiming to have it. While the plant grows in the unforgiving sands of the Kalahari, it apparently is not easy to propagate in nurseries or in commercial fields.

Michael McGuffin, president of the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA), says he believes consumers are receiving hoodia in products purchased from AHPA members. The association requires its members to comply with federal law and AHPA guidelines, McGuffin says.

"I know of several companies that import it," McGuffin says. "I've seen several companies selling it on trade-show floors and Internet Web sites."

While the AHPA has yet to delve into the question of the plant's safety, it has created a commission to "promote and protect responsible commerce of products that contain hoodia." The Federal Food and Drug Administration does not regulate the herb and supplement industry, meaning it doesn't require testing and studies before a product hits the market.

The association compiled a botanical safety handbook for its membership in 1997. The book outlines how 550 herbs should be used — or not used — but the book was compiled before hoodia arrived on the market.
There have been no reports of health problems associated with hoodia. McGuffin notes that people have used it for hundreds of years, apparently without ill effects.

    But does it work?
So the question remains: Does it work? A check of dieting discussion boards and blogs offers a definite maybe. While the slight majority of posters said it didn't work, almost as many said it did.

McGuffin says that with herbal supplements as well as prescription drugs, consumers shouldn't expect the pill to solve all the problems. They should be treated as aids, he says, not cures.
"There is no silver bullet when it comes to weight loss," McGuffin says. "Drugs aren't silver bullets; over-the-counter substances are not silver bullets; herbs aren't silver bullets. You can't sit on the couch and eat potato chips and take a pill and lose weight. Diet and exercise are essential."

McGuffin's reasoning seems to be reflected in the instructions packaged with the hoodia pills. Dieters are told that for the pills to work effectively, they must be combined with reduced calorie intake, reduction of carbohydrates and fats, lots of water consumption and exercise. One manufacturer recommends walking one to two miles a day, and drinking one ounce of water for every two pounds you weigh.
Laboratory tests conducted by Alkemist Pharmaceuticals in Costa Mesa, CA, showed that approximately two-thirds of the tested supplements that were claimed to have hoodia gordonii within them contained no identifiable Hoodia Gordonii according to two plant authentication tests. This means that many consumers are being ripped off and are not even getting the proper product to begin with.

    Exercise On An Empty Stomach

Exercise on an empty stomach and really early can actually wreak havoc on your stomach. While exercise does burn calories, it also makes you feel hungrier afterwards.

A lot of people tend to exercise very early in the morning and on an empty stomach because they have heard or read somewhere that this is the best time to exercise or the only time of day where you can squeeze in a workout.
Eating less food is one of the best practices when trying to lose body fat, but becoming more active seems to be the major hurdle that causes almost all weight loss plans to fail again and again.
But What if I was to tell you that exercising may actually be causing you to lose less weight?

Although you may not end up eating 4 pieces of toast along with 6 eggs and 2 large glasses of orange juice after each exercise, the amount of calories burnt during the workout is often much higher than the actual amount. Other thing is many people underestimate the amount of calories they eat at meals, combine for slower weight loss.

Quickly weight loss is something that you should not aim to accomplish. A slower approach to weight loss is one that will most likely see permanent results and the plan can be maintained for a longer period of time because it is tolerable and not too strict.

The main key to successful weight loss is to never perform a workout just before a main meal. Try to do it just before some other activity or before you need to go out.

As example, if you just finished a 30 minute workout on your treadmill, you should go and shower, and then maybe you could go to your local coffee shop or maybe go out for a walk to the park.

Keep in mind that fiber will help to fill your stomach without adding too many calories. So what you could do is eat a high fiber snack just before a workout.

The biggest downfalls of weight loss are protein shakes and sport waters. These usually contain very large amounts of sugar. All the calories you had just burned off get added straight back to your body with these sugary drinks.

Remember that exercise can cause you to have a larger appetite and take precautions to watch you’re snacking after workouts and learn to snack wisely. The solution for permanent weight loss is to preserve your lean muscle mass while increasing your metabolic rate by building it while controlling you appetite through proper nutrition.

Using Muscle Confusion For Weight Loss

With any weight loss program you choose, there will always some challenges that you must overcome. One of the best ways to keep those scales going down during your journey is to incorporate a technique known as "muscle confusion" into your daily workouts or exercise sessions.

    Treadmills For Using Weights

Recently, treadmills have grown in popularity and have become the primary source of exercise for many people as an aid to weight loss. Although treadmills are a great choice and can help you burn a decent amount of calories, there are few tricks you can use to burn even more calories while using a treadmill.

For the first 15 minutes of using the machine, your body is simply warming up and not many calories are being burnt. Because the leg muscles are large, they require a significant amount of blood flow in order to start burning fat.

Most people are excited to complete the first 15 minutes of a treadmill workout, but this should be just the beginning. Everything after 15 minutes is where the fat burning action really starts to begin.

The best way to get the most out of any treadmill workout is to actually warm your legs up just before you start by using weights. Doing this will reduce the time it takes for your body to warm up and start burning fat. Here are a couple of exercises you can perform for around 15 minutes with weights before getting on the treadmill.

Squats - Using a smith machine or squat bar is a perfect way to warm up those muscles in your legs. Doing sets of 10 repetitions with about 90 seconds of rest in between sets will warm up your muscles effectively and quickly.

If you don't have any free weights or equipment, you can just perform normal squats which are still good; however, you should increase your repetitions per set to around 20.

Lunges - These may seem a little awkward, but they are excellent as well for warming up those leg muscles.

To perform a lunge, you simply place one foot in front of the other while bending the knee of the back leg to touch the ground, you then stand up straight and bring your front leg back to normal position and repeat. These again, can be performed with free weights or without.

After you have properly warmed up those leg muscles and get on that treadmill, every minute will be burning fat. Losing weight is all about burning body fat so these easy replacement exercises will help you to achieve much more weight loss from the same amount of time.

Also, you should remember to change your treadmill routine around from time to time especially if your goal is weight loss. If you can, use a treadmill that has the option of inclining and declining so you can target different muscle groups of the legs.

If you like to run, you should try walking, but at a brisk pace for longer periods. This is to reduce the strain put on the knees.

Remember, losing weight comes down to burning calories, so don't forget to warm up those legs first before you set foot on the treadmill so that you burn fat from the very first step and not the 500th.

The solution to permanent weight loss is to consume the right kinds of foods at each meal to preserve your lean muscle mass and to increase the fat burning rate by building new muscle to speed up your metabolism.
